Phase Synchronization of Two Tremor - Related Neurons
نویسنده
چکیده
The objective of the study was to investigate the presence of the phase-locking between a pair of physiological tremor signals from two closely located neurons in the thalamotomy area of a human brain. Most frequently used current methods detect both phase and amplitude correlations between tremor signals based on the stationary assumption of the signals. The correlation analysis method utilized in the present study only focuses on the phase synchronization of a pair of periodic or quasiperiodic signals. This method does not require the stationarity assumption of signals because it estimates the instantaneous tremor frequency series of tremor signals.

High-frequency synchronization of neuronal activity in the subthalamic nucleus of parkinsonian patients with limb tremor.
It has been hypothesized that in Parkinson's disease (PD) there is increased synchronization of neuronal firing in the basal ganglia. This study examines the discharge activity of 121 pairs of subthalamic nucleus (STN) neurons in nine PD patients undergoing functional stereotactic mapping. Four patients had a previous pallidotomy. A double microelectrode setup was used to simultaneously record ...
متن کاملAdaptive Fractional-order Control for Synchronization of Two Coupled Neurons in the External Electrical Stimulation
This paper addresses synchronizing two coupled chaotic FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) neurons with weakly gap junction under external electrical stimulation (EES). To transmit information among coupled neurons, by generalization of the integer-order FHN equations of the coupled system into the fractional-order in frequency domain using Crone approach, the behavior of each coupled neuron relies on its pa...
متن کاملDecaying of phase synchronization in parkinsonian tremor
We describe effects of the asymmetry of cycles and non-stationarity in time series on the phase synchronization method which may lead to artifacts. We develop a modified method that overcomes these effects and apply it to study parkinsonian tremor. Our results indicate that there is synchronization between two different hands and provide information about the time delay separating their dynamic...

Rhesus and vervet monkeys respond differently to treatment with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine hydrochloride neurotoxin (MPTP). Both species develop akinesia, rigidity, and severe postural instability. However, rhesus monkeys only develop infrequent, short episodes of high-frequency tremor, whereas vervet monkeys have many prolonged episodes of low-frequency tremor. After MPTP tre...
متن کاملDetection of n : m Phase Locking from Noisy Data: Application to Magnetoencephalography
We use the concept of phase synchronization for the analysis of noisy nonstationary bivariate data. Phase synchronization is understood in a statistical sense as an existence of preferred values of the phase di erence, and two techniques are proposed for a reliable detection of synchronous epochs. These methods are applied to magnetoencephalograms and records of muscle activity of a Parkinsonia...
